Mohd Shakil art teacher, Lucknow on winning the national award for the best teacher.
The award has given me great happiness. As far as recognition is concerned. It reinforces the importance of art and culture in our lives. Any society without art and culture is meaningless.
How was it interacting with President Kalam?
Due to time and protocol constraints we couldn���t talk much.
I told him that I am a drawing and painting teacher and have done many works on Krishna mythology, national integration and world peace.
Have your paintings on Hindu deities ever been subjected to criticism?
I have made some 200 plus paintings on Krishna mythology and some 300 on Ganesha. No one can claim any rights over a religion. Moreover, no one has ever questioned my work.
What next? Want to head some department?
No. I can���t be a good administrator. I am an artist and in love with my work. As for now, I want to do something different, probably on children, education and Tugara paintings.
But all this will incorporate my students and my department is supporting me in my endeavour.
